First Indication Luke isn’t Alone!

Legends of Luke came out Tuesday and it’s given our first look at an older Luke… and evidence there might be another in his life.

In the final short story in the book, Big Inside, a biologist recounts her encounter with Luke when she was still a grad student (in story it’s relayed by a twelve year old boy). Her first impression of him is his ship:

The ship wasn’t something you saw every day: a two-seat starfighter with an A shape, a worn paint job, and plenty of marks and dents all over the hull. It was probably an old military surplus vehicle that had been converted to civilian use and patched and repaired so many times over the years that it was hard to say if any original components remained.

“Need a ride?” The pilot’s boyish, happy eyes twinkled. The lived-in state of the cockpit told me he had been traveling for a long time. “Hop in. I’m Luke.”

Luke is piloting an A-Wing, which he modified to accommodate a second seat and he’s had it for some time. Considering he still has his X-Wing as of TLJ, what would prompt him to heavily use another ship that doesn’t have a slot for Artoo? (Where is that droid anyway?) Could it be our lone Jedi isn’t so lonesome? Luke give the biologist an explanation:

We chatted as Luke piloted the A-wing through the asteroid belt. He explained that he’d modified the cockpit in part to take on passengers on his long flights around the galaxy as a way to relieve some boredom.

So Luke is running a free Uber service now? Uh-huh, we believe you!

His age in this story appears to be late-20’s or early 30’s (Luke was 34 when Rey was born). He has a beard:

Luke’s visage floated in and out of focus. His face was full of scars, and the deadly digestive juices of the space slug had eaten away his beard.

And he looks about that age in the picture:

Just what is our boy up to?

For those interested in the chronological order in the book, this story has a clear reference to the earlier story, Fishing in the Deluge, which I covered earlier this week.
