Rumors of Rey Skywalker’s Death Have Been Greatly Exaggerated

The movie told us one answer while showing us the actual answer the whole time. Spoilers at the jump.

The general fandom consensus is the The Last Jedi closes the door on Rey being a Luke’s daughter, but if you pay attention to the movie, it actually very strongly supports Rey Skywalker, while obscuring it with the dialog. First Rey recounts what made Luke a legend (turning Darth Vader) early in the film. Later, in the mirror cave, Rey asks to be shown her parents and is ultimately shown a reflection of herself (much as Luke saw himself in Vader’s armor in ESB). Rey then leaves to save Kylo Ren out of compassion and sequence in the throne room (up to Kylo killing Snoke) is an almost beat for beat replica of the ROTJ confrontation (some of the dialog is even the same). The movie finishes out with Luke and Rey saving those they love.

The mirror scene is telling us (and Rey) the answer is found within Rey herself and she proceeds to act out exactly what made her father a legend.

There are a lot of questions and objections that will be raised, but the answer actually gives hints towards what happened. We’ll be doing a *Tour de Force* post laying those answers out after the holidays.
