Queen’s Shadow Observations and Notes

Queen’s Shadow came out March 5th and covered Padmé’s transition from Queen to Senator with an additional emphasis on the handmaidens. The book does a fantastic amount of badly needed world building for the pre-Clone Wars era. It lays the groundwork for quite a few potential storylines and fills in several gaps. In this article, I’ve compiled a number of my observations and significant lore additions.

Kylo Ren’s Fate in Episode IX

Image result for kylo ren

Written by robotical712, speaking for myself only.

Kylo Ren is perhaps the franchise’s most divisive character. Some see him as a victim of his identity and the circumstances of his childhood. For those who see him that way, he’s a misguided and a lonely individual who is only missing love and understanding. To others he’s megalomaniacal monster who has refused every chance at redemption and must be put down. Unsurprisingly, speculation and opinions over what his fate will be in IX also vary the most of all of the characters. From an unrepentant death to atonement and forgiveness, little can stoke emotions like the debate over where his character is headed.

Return of the Last Jedi: A Throne Room Parallel Video

– article and video study by HanSpinel

Several commonalities exist in the form of plot lines and visual parallels between The Last Jedi (TLJ) and the Original Trilogy (OT). Here, I explore the similarities among the “Throne Room” scenes of Return of the Jedi and The Last Jedi, most of which play out in a beat-for-beat fashion (video below).

To Buy or Not to Buy? International Toy Fair 2019 Impressions

– Guest Post by Toytooine

February 14th has come and gone again, the season of love; and for us fans of an aggressively branded property, it marks the return to our first love – spending gobs of money on useless crap! Yes, every year around this time the icy cold of New York unfreezes for just a bit for all our favorite toy companies to come together and show off their upcoming wears for the year. Essentially, Toy Fair is a big ol’ convention for the toy industry to remind the retailers (and us!) of all the exciting stuff we can look forward to buying in 2019.

I low-key have looked forward to this show popping up images online for years and years now. Mostly, you can envision what the companies are going to show off, but every once in a while you get some surprises. Hey, remember that giant 6-foot Sail Barge they showed off last year? You just never know.

Now, before y’all get too excited, it’s much too early for Ep IX merch, so none of that was shown off. However, you can bet on an avalanche of plastic goodies in the stores as the new theme park opens and the movie draws closer. For the time being, we are looking at merch from existing material, which is A-Ok by me. In addition, since collecting is a money game, I figured I’d critique the reveals in the best way these companies know how – will I buy it? Besides, it’ll be fun to see how much money I’m about to sink this year.. right?

So, did our licensees bring their A-game to the Sabaac table, or can our disappointment in their performance not be overstated? Let’s take a look… Continue reading To Buy or Not to Buy? International Toy Fair 2019 Impressions

Searching for Carrie Fisher: Estimating Screen-Time Available for Episode IX

written by HanSpinel

I’ve been wondering recently: just how much Carrie screen time is available to use in Episode IX? And is there a way to find out? Below, I estimate the available screen-time containing Carrie Fisher left on the cutting room floor of The Force Awakens including scenes with Maz Kanata and some potential dialogue with Rey that was likely cut from the film. All in all, the results may surprise you in that over an hour’s worth or more of various footage and dialogue is likely available containing our beloved Princess and General….

Update (02/18/19): Don’t forget, and as @Mirahtrunks rightly points out, none of these estimates include unused footage from TLJ, which only strengthens the conclusion that Leia could have some nice screen-time in IX and/or play a pivotal role!
